    Why replacement graphics?

    Let's face it, the graphics that come with WINPLAN truely suck.  Its as simple as that. The pictures that are included with winplan are made to avoid copyright lawsuits, not impress users.  So, replace them! 

    I  have a full set of replacement graphics that I put together with the names changed and everything. But, I found that most people have different taste than my own(go figure :-/). 

    So, I have my individual sets of replacement pictures.  Plus, I have now included links below to other fine repositories of replacement graphics. Some of these guys are quite serious about providing top quality replacements. Where as I was merely concerned with the lofty goal of making sure the replacements were at least better than the crap that came with the game. 

    If you locate a good picture let me know where it can be found or you can uuencode it and e-mail ( ) it to me. I will add it to this page.

    The files are PKZipped files with replacement graphics for
    VGA Planets version 3.5 or later.

    After you have downloaded one of the files simply unzip into
    a temporary directory and name the file with the vpl###.bmp filename
    that you would like to use.

    For a list of vpl###.bmp numbers and what each is for, get this list.

    EXAMPLE:
    Assume you downloaded the file to your C:\TEMP directory.
    And, you have installed VGA Planets in the C:\WINPLAN directory.

     CD \TEMP
    PKUNZIP NEWGRAPH.ZIP
    REN SHIPPIC.BMP VPL101.BMP
    COPY VPL101.BMP C:\WINPLAN\BMP

     Respond with "a" (for all) or "y" (for yes) when asked if you wish to overwrite
    the old files.

     

  • This graphic file (04-JAN-97, ~711K) contains my old set.
  • This graphic file (12-NOV-2001, ~3.7M) contains my new set.
    This includes new planets as well as all other graphics suitable for replacement.
    I got most of these from Donovan's page, but I put them here in a form ready-to-use.
